An El Dorado County sheriff's deputy was injured early today when his cruiser was struck from behind by a vehicle driven by a suspected drunken driver, officials announced.

Deputy Rory McIntyre was making a traffic stop at Highway 50 and Blue Lakes Avenue in South Lake Tahoe about 2:15 a.m. The car that struck his cruiser was driven by Brooke Amber Sullivan, 26, of South Lake Tahoe, officials said. Both cars had major damage, officials said.

McIntyre was transported to Barton Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released.

South Lake Tahoe police arrested Sullivan, officials said. She was booked into El Dorado County Jail on suspicion of drunken driving resulting in bodily injury, a felony, officials said. By early afternoon, she had been released from custody, according to jail records.
